Contrary to last year on the onset of the pandemic, Cebu has lower coronavirus rates now. However, with the estimated 12.7% revenue to the country's GDP from the tourism and leisure industry, Cebu being a top tourist destination in the Philippines has been hit worse economically due to lockdown.
It's no surprise that hotels and resorts alike are trying to strike the right balance of enticing back visitors while still managing the spread of the coronavirus. But where's the fun in quarantine travel beyond the shorelines of the island? The answer? Discover, travel, and explore local destinations within your reach. Plus, it will help you get the best value for your money.
Set amid the northwest part of Cebu, the serene municipality of Asturias boasts its lush and vibrant flora and fauna scene. Something that would definitely put the place to the existing hallmarks of summer-perfect travel destinations in Cebu. A new budget resort in Asturias, Saint Anthony Beach Resort, opened its gates to those who would like to set themselves for total relaxation and adventure combined sans the expensive fees.
Aside from the benefits of affordable travel and accommodation fees, here are Bloom Cebu's top reasons why you should visit Saint Anthony Beach Resort in a heartbeat!
Trek towards an untouched part of Asturias and discover its wonderful body of water and lush greens as you hike in a trail prepared by the resort. Witness nature's magnificence as you dip into the cold freshwater of Manguiao Falls. This secluded site can only be accessed if you book a stay at Saint Anthony Beach Resort in Asturias. The experience to commune with life in many forms including the lush verdant lifeforms at the Manguiao is all worth one's energy after a challenging trekking activity.
🛶Kayaking Experience
There are multiple other ways to splash out in the water aside from the usual swimming session. At Saint Anthony's, revel in the joy from kayaking which you may include in your booking. Back on dry land, there’s enough space for your family and friends to play beach volleyball or set up a picnic among fun things under the sun. I never felt freer than I felt while kayaking. Regardless of my sore arm muscles, this is one of my most treasured experiences in life and I'm just so happy to do it in an environment like Saint Anthony Beach Resort.
Come evening, snuggle up in your comfiest cardigan for dinner or story-telling night. Or you may take a romantic stroll along the waterfront gazing at the starry night sky. At Saint Anthony's you may also secure a bonfire session. Let the resort know ahead and they can prepare a night full of wonders for you, smores making?
This is a personal favorite activity. This is all free, unique, and substantial. Discover more about diversity and other people's way of living by interacting with the locals of Asturias. At the resort, I shared a brief dialogue with JR, a ten-year-old elementary school student, (pictured above) whose laser focus was transfixed in catching eels. He does the act with his tiny hands, broomsticks, and fisherman's nylon. Not minding the eel's slimy body and painful bite, JR looks forward to sharing his every catch with his family as their main dish for dinner.
I turned my back from the setting April sun feeling more alive. Silently praying for an invisible healing my weary soul craves from the city life.
Enjoy the taste of the good life with a hot cup of joe. These are made of whole fruit coffee tended, harvested, and roasted in the good earth of Asturias, Cebu. Who would have thought that an experience like this can be revel on in a decent resort? And who would have guessed that a coffee farm exists in the bountiful land of Asturias? Capture the goodness of that brown energy in a cup down to its endless flavor notes. Nothing more perfect than enjoying a good cup of coffee in front of a calm sea.
Unplug and unwind while you chase the sun setting. Forget the real world at Saint Anthony's where you can never watch too many sunsets!
What's a trip to the beach without a rich gastronomical experience? Indulge in the open-air as you delight your palate with local Cebuano cuisine mostly prepared by Cafe Asturias - a cafe/restaurant operated by the resort.
Cafe Asturias also offers all-day breakfast and ala carte meals from 120php to 150php. They are also open to requests such as main dish preparation for sharing. That includes their special, delectable, and juicy lechon belly!
Replete your Asturias adventure with local favorites too. Don't leave the place without trying the Bingka Dawa of Asturias. Bingka or bibingka is a popular Filipino rice cake often made of glutinous rice. However, the locals of Asturias create theirs with a special form of millet abundant in the area - the dawa. Dawa is a form of foxtail millet that is also often utilized by farmers as feeds for farm animals. It's a really interesting treat that is ubiquitous in the streets and public markets of Asturias. It pretty much tastes like the usual bibingka but it is definitely fluffier and a bit sweeter. You may ask the resort staff where to buy this delicious delicacy!
Other foods that hungry mouths must not miss in Asturias are their milk donuts. Although it is not something exclusive in the municipality, it's a great way for you to support the local businesses of its people. Since the waters of Asturias are rich in marine creatures, you may request your own plates of seafood dishes fresh from the beach!
Other activities that I would recommend:A tour at Buswang Lake and Tompar's Coffee Farm, Book and Poetry Reading, Yoga and Meditation by the sea.

🌺🌺🌺Saint Anthony Beach Resort in a Nutshell
In totality, I highly recommend the beach resort for a much-awaited getaway. It's clean, safe, affordable, and accessible. It's an ideal place to spend time with family and friends. Not to mention, it is also much accessible compared to other beach resorts in Cebu which are now getting crowded due to popularity.
