Student-scholars of the Bugsay Scholarship Program (BSP) of the RAFI Micro-Finance Inc. (RAFI MFI) will be recognized for their achievements during a virtual general assembly on November 20, 2021. “Students with exemplary performance — both in curricular and extra-curricular — will be recognized, said Jonar Dorado, RAFI Micro-Finance Inc. (RAFI MFI) Chief OperatingOfficer.“By recognizing these top students’ achievements, we hope these can inspire others to strive to also reach new heights especially in their studies and in their lives,” said Dorado.Aside from that, the BSP General Assembly, with a theme “Well-being in the Digital Age”, will also help students understand the importance of their mental well-being and on how to cope with the challenges of the pandemic and that of the digital world. The event will also include a discussion about the vital role of psychological well-being among students in the digital age from Sherryl Muli-Abellanosa, PhD, RPsy, LPT, a professor from USC, a psychologist and the founder of Kauban, a mental health supportgroup in Cebu City. “The BSP General Assembly shall bring together8our student-grantees across the different provinces in order for them to be8united8by having a positive scholarship cultureamong their co-scholars and the BSP staff,” said Ailyne Lim, RAFI Micro-Finance Inc. (RAFI MFI) Head of Operations and Chairperson of the BSP Scholarship Program Committee. RAFI MFI’s Bugsay Scholarship Program or BSP aims to increase the number of graduates in higher education among low-income households and ensure that these graduates get employed in high-value occupations. This program is in line with the national government’s thrust to effectively address poverty through education. The BSP is also one of the non-financial services initiatives of the RAFI MFI together with its partner Philpacific Insurance Brokers & Managers-Cebu (Philinsure). This is exclusively granted and used for the tertiary education of deserving students of RAFI MFI clients who belong to low-income households.

The BSP also aims to enable student-grantees to embody the Bugsay Principle, which will equip them to become achievers — not just in school, but also in life. The Bugsay principle of RAFI’s late president Roberto “Bobby” E. Aboitiz, which is at the heart of theprograms8of the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI) to help address poverty, helps equip individuals especially those low-income families with the tools or the “bugsay” (paddle) that can help them to change their lives.“With this bugsay, the individual is given the choice to change one’s life by paddling to abetter destination or to a better life”.
