The year 2021 is coming to an end, and despite its fair share of drama, the Queen City of the South has so much to celebrate and look forward to. Apart from the beauty queens who have taken the city into the limelight, there's one Cebuano actor from the entertainment industry who is setting a festive mood for the upcoming year. It's Dan Sy Lopez, who recently gathered the Best Actor Award in this year's Star Hollywood Award for his performance in the film "Isolasyon". While Dan isn't a household name yet, there's no way for his light as a star to diminish. If anything, Dan is more than ready to shine on his own terms. At a young age, Dan found himself bedazzled by the world of cinema. Dan's love for acting started when he was only 8 years old. Despite being a Nursing graduate, he finds something special in portraying various roles or different characters and embracing every portrayal with passion and dedication. Seeing himself acting both on tv and on stage gives him fulfillment and satisfaction, especially in knowing that his performance makes other people happy. It's a feeling that Dan describes as something that is 'beyond words'.
The young actor credits his experiences as marketing assistant, ESL instructor, and nurse as his training ground that contributed a lot in his acting career. Specifically, Dan acknowledges mastering both preparation and accommodation as skills from his previous jobs. This shouldn't come as a surprise as actors are expected to deal with a lot of personalities and work with different people.
STAR HOLLYWOOD AWARDS is an award-giving body dedicated to give space and exposure to independent films from all over the world. Dan won the Best Actor award for the film 'Isolasyon' which is a story about forgiveness and unconditional love. He played the role of a man named Gab who repeatedly asks for his wife's forgiveness after being caught red-handed cheating. The pandemic set as the backdrop for the film. Dan was ecstatic to learn from his director about the award and is grateful for the role given to him.
Having already won several acting awards, Dan considers "Ang Katapusang Tindak" as his most memorable project. "I had my hair literally shaved and shed some pounds for my character", Dan shared.
The role earned him a Best Actor nomination and only goes to show how passionate and dedicated he is as an actor. When asked what sort of acting roles he would like to have in the future, Dan answered that he is willing to try different roles such as a deaf-mute, superhero, assassin, psychopath, and schizophrenic characters.
He would like to work with high-calibre actors in the Philippines like Jodi Sta Maria, Iza Calzado, Kim Chiu, Vilma Santos, Anne Curtis, Angel Locsin, Christopher de Leon, JC Santos, John Lloyd Cruz, and Arjo Atayde.
Dan is grateful to those who believed in him and to those who trust his acting capability and capacity. “I am an actor who is a dreamer that wants to achieve my dream and very dedicated and passionate in what I do,” said Dan. Acting for him is an art form that tells stories to inspire and an opportunity that allows him to experience many different roles.
When not on set, Dan typically spends his day just like any other millennials of his age -praying, eating, sleeping, surfing the net, and hanging out with his friends.
Bloom Cebu took the chance to ask him how he would like to be known to Cebuanos. “I am a person who never and does not give up on his dreams, somebody who is always willing and ready to face life's challenges and trials, has faith in himself and what he can do to survive all obstacles. I am the type of person that does not care as to what others say about me, as long as I could not hurt them. After all, life is too short for hating others,” Dan replied.
It is said that the greatest enemy to success is choosing to give up. With passion and dedication like Dan, stardom is never too far from his reach.
