Kaftan One by Nikki Coseteng delves into the realm of fabrics, using a diverse range of fabrics, including silk, cotton, and more. Crafted primarily by women artisans from various worldwide, each piece from Kaftan One is a unique masterpiece and wearable art.
The brand was born during the COVID-19 pandemic when the former senator found herself staying home for two years. Eventually, the idle time brought her in touch with her fascinating textile collection.
Nikki has been drawing inspiration from her travels, indigenous tribes, local weavers, and artisans in the countries she has visited to create a collection of stunning silk and cotton clothing that will impress. Wondering what she could do with her vast fabric collection, she meticulously handpicked each fabric, considering its texture, color, and pattern, and collaborated with skilled artisans to transform them into unique and stylish kaftans.
According to Nikki, the brand wouldn't have been possible without the help of her family and friends, especially her good friend, the late Zenaida "Nedy" Rustia Tantoco of the Rustan Group. She encouraged her to fully embrace her creativity and turn her love for fabrics into a full-blown brand of bespoke kaftan pieces.
Nikki's travels have taken her to places like Thailand, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Malaysia, India, Korea, and South Africa, where she immersed herself in the local culture and traditions. She's sourced materials from the regions of Cordillera, Ilocos, Abra, the Yakans of Basilan, and the Taosugs of Sulu, incorporating their unique patterns and colors into her designs.
